The ability to provide basic life support to someone who is choking, drowning or are suffering from cardiac arrest, can make the difference between life and death. BLS is included in all first aid training courses, along with related life-saving techniques and procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
This skill is especially important for divers as we often find ourselves in remote areas where assistance from emergency services might be some time away.
Covid 19 Compliance
During the Covid 19 lockdown restrictions ScubaQuest are continuing to teach BLS within the government guidelines as students are able to leave home and attend for work purposes that cannot be undertaken from home. This means that face to face training is delivered but in compliance with Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) guidance.
We have conducted a risk assessment of the dive centre to determine the maximum safe capacity to be able to adhere to appropriate social distancing. This determines the number of places available on each of the courses we offer.
Additional PPE is supplied for practical skills undertaken as part of any of our BLS courses. We also keep the dive centre well ventilated during courses so the wearing of warm clothing is advised.
If you require any further information regarding our Covid compliance or the impact on any of the programmes please contact us directly.

FRTI and EFR courses build lay-rescuer confidence to provide care when faced with a medical emergency.
You will learn and practice the same patient care techniques and principles used by medical professionals, but at a layperson level.
Though independent online study and skills practice with your instructor, you will gain the training needed to help not only a diver in need, but maybe a friend, family member, neighbour or co-worker.
Single evening or half day weekend sessions for those who need to update and re-certify are also available.
EFR Refresher/Update Course
The refresher course is aimed at those who have previously passed this course but whose certification has lapsed (2 years from original certification date).
The Refresher course comprises the completion of the exam, an update of any changes in procedure and an evaluation of practical skills.
